Jean ROTTNER was Vice-President of the Grand Est Region in charge of territorial competitiveness and digital technology. In October 2017 he succeeded Philippe RICHERT as President of the Grand Est Region and was re-elected as head of the Region on 27 June 2021. He is also First Deputy Mayor of the city of Mulhouse, of which he was Mayor between 2010 and 2017. He is also a community councillor of Mulhouse Alsace Agglomeration. As a representative of the Association of Regions of France, he was appointed member of the Supervisory Board of SNCF (from February 2018 to January 2020) and member of the Board of Directors of the National Agency for Urban Renewal (ANRU), by decree. In addition, he has chaired the National Federation of Urban Planning Agencies (FNAU) since September 2014, the Summit of the Greater Region (Wallonia and Wallonia-Brussels Federation – Lorraine – Saarland – Rhineland-Palatinate – German-speaking Community of Belgium – Grand Duchy of Luxembourg) since January 2021 and the Mobility, Transport, Infrastructure Committee within Regions of France since September 2021. Jean ROTTNER was born in 1967. Doctor of medicine, he was an emergency hospital practitioner at the Mulhouse Hospital Center (1997-2005) before heading the emergency medicine department from 2005 to 2009. Already a Knight of the National Order of Merit since 2011, he was named Knight of the Legion of Honor during the promotion of July 14, 2018.
