Description
Michel de Mathelin is the first vice-president and vice-president for strategy and innovation at the University of Strasbourg (UNISTRA).
He obtained an engineering degree from the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium, and a master's degree and a doctorate from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, USA.
He is a professor at Télécom Physique Strasbourg. He created a research team in medical robotics at UNISTRA, composed of 80 researchers and engineers.
He founded and directed the ICube laboratory (UMR CNRS-UNISTRA 7357) from 2013 to 2023, which brings together more than 750 researchers in the fields of engineering and computer science, with a specialization in biomedical engineering.
Michel de Mathelin has held management positions at the University of Strasbourg, notably as vice-president in charge of development and relations with the socio-economic world (2017-2021), then as first vice-president (2021-2025). He was re-elected in April 2025 as first vice-president and vice-president for strategy and innovation. He has been involved in several national initiatives, such as the coordination of the "Robotex" network and the animation of the "Interventional Imaging" network of France Life Imaging. He is also co-inventor of around ten patents and co-founder of 2 startups in medical robotics.
