Description
Pierre-François Mourier is the rector of the Grand Est academic region, rector of the Nancy-Metz academy, and chancellor of universities.
Born on June 3, 1966, in Ajaccio, Pierre-François Mourier is a former student of the École normale supérieure (ENS) of Rue d’Ulm in classical literature and a graduate in the same discipline. His research has focused on history and philology.
He began his teaching career as a normalien monitor fellow (Latin language and civilization) at the University of Lille III and also taught in the United States as part of the summer programs at Middlebury College. After a mission, as part of his national service, as a cultural attaché at the French Embassy in New York, he headed the Department of Humanities and publications at the École nationale supérieure du paysage de Versailles.
In 2002, he joined the Conseil d’État, where he specialized in legal issues related to education and new technologies. In 2005, he was appointed advisor for speeches, then for culture and education, to the President of the Republic.
Appointed Consul General in San Francisco in 2007, he was particularly interested in education, research, and innovation policies. From 2012 to 2016, he served as the French Ambassador to Ljubljana.
In February 2018, at the request of the Minister in charge of national education, he left his responsibilities as Institutional Advisor to head France Éducation International, the French public agency for educational cooperation, active in more than 170 countries.
In July 2023, he was appointed rector of the academic region of La Réunion.
Pierre-François Mourier is also the author of several books on education, culture, and innovation, as well as a novel and graphic novels. He is a Knight of the Legion of Honor, Officer of Arts and Letters, Commander of the Academic Palms, and Officer of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Slovenia.
