After a diploma in public administration at the IRA of Lyon, Josiane Chevalier wanted to specialize within the framework of a DESS "management of social policies".
A career that began in a local community...
After a few years as project manager for the prefects of Ain and Isère between 1981 and 1986, Josiane Chevalier joined the General Council of Isère, which she left in 2002.
She has held various positions within this local authority, enabling her to develop her skills in the social field and to become director of health and solidarity in 1994.

On January 28, 2002 Josiane Chevalier becomes sub-prefect in Vitry-Le-François in the Marne. His career as sub-prefect will take him to different departments such as Jura, Savoie, Hauts de Seine or Rhône. She will thus be able to make her mark as secretary general of the prefecture or director of cabinet.
In June 2012, she was appointed prefect in the Tarn.
During her prefectural career, she will occupy positions in territories with high stakes and a strong regional identity such as the Pyrénées Orientales, Essonne or Corsica.
She was appointed prefect of the Grand-Est region, prefect of the eastern defense and security zone, prefect of Bas-Rhin in January 2020, at the dawn of the COVID health crisis.
