INRAE, the National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and the Environment, is a major player in research and innovation created on January 1, 2020. Finalized research institute resulting from the merger between the Inra and Irstea, INRAE brings together a community of 12,000 people, with 273 research, service and experimental units located in 18 centers throughout France. It is the world's leading research organization specializing in the whole "agriculture-food-environment". INRAE aims to be a key player in the transitions needed to meet major global challenges. With its scientific, public and private partners, INRAE builds solutions for multi-performance agriculture, quality food and sustainable management of resources and ecosystems.
INRAE thus develops diversified partnerships that favor the co-construction of the value creation process between all the actors in the chain. With more than 450 socio-economic partnerships and dynamic support for start-ups, INRAE is a major player in innovation for agriculture, food and the environment.
In the Grand Est Region, INRAE is located on several sites attached to the Centers of Nancy and Colmar. The research carried out in partnership with university sites mainly concerns forest management, sustainable viticulture, the development of wood and materials from biomass, and the sustainable management of territories. In addition, INRAE in the Grand Est is also a pioneer in terms of open innovation with its major involvement in the “Men and Trees” Innovation Territory.
