INRAE, the National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and the Environment, is a major player in research and innovation created on 1 January 2020 following the merger between INRA and Irstea. A finalized research institute, it brings together a community of 12,000 people, with 268 research, service and experimental units located in 18 centers throughout France. It is the world's leading research organization specializing in "agriculture-food-environment". INRAE's ambition is to be a key player in the transitions necessary to meet the major global challenges. With its partners, scientific, public and private, INRAE builds solutions for multi-performance agriculture, quality food and sustainable management of resources and ecosystems. INRAE thus develops diversified partnerships that favor the co-construction of the value creation process between all the actors in the chain. With more than 450 socio-economic partnerships and a dynamic support for start-ups, INRAE is a major player in innovation for agriculture, food and the environment. In the Grand Est Region, INRAE is located on several sites attached to the Nancy and Colmar Centres. Research conducted in partnership with university sites focuses mainly on forest management, sustainable viticulture, the valorization of wood and biomass materials, and the sustainable management of territories. In addition, INRAE in grand Est is also a pioneer in terms of open innovation with its major investment in the Innovation Territory "Des Hommes et des Arbres".
